Welcome to Coresia. We believe that solving real-world challenges requires an inclusive approach that expands beyond traditional boundaries and empowers the community to drive discovery and innovation. We seek to enable this operationalizing the knowledge mobilization.

Whether you are just a curious visitor, somebody with a research interest, experience or resources to offer, this guide will help you navigate the coresia.org platform and make a meaningful impact via knowledge mobilization.

Exploring the research map

You don’t need an account to explore the platform. The coresia.org’s homepage is an interactive space where one can explore the interactive knowledgebase represented in the form of a research map where the

Regions are different research areas/domains as part of a vast landscape.
Places are distinct by interconnected research aims of following types:
- Grand challenges we confront are broken down, into the
- Innovations needed to tackle them, further
- Discoveries onto which the innovations will be built on,
- Illustrations which would collectively render the discoveries and finally
- Insights which are basic units composing illustrations.
Place description i.e. description of a given research project includes
- Relevant key variables, data sources, methods, both known and suggested by resident co-researchers
- Interest for the research project in the form of the views and likes
- Reviews, meaning what do we know so far, has this research topic been Explored at all, Modeled to any extent, and how well is the relevant phenomenon Predicted (semantic analysis),
- Updates containing the timeline of major events either brought about by Coresia’s talented co-researchers or elsewhere.
- Management details, if you may be interested in partnering with us.
Paths connect the Grand challenges with Innovations, then Discoveries, Illustrations and finally the elemental Insights.
- Chosen path is shown with continuous lines,
- Alternative paths is shown with continuous lines in faded colors, and
- Paths un-/less travelled are indicated with dashed lines
Directions are for navigating from the Grand challenges to the milestones on the way.
- The “true north” is addressing the Grand challenges through increasing scale and complexity of the research projects starting from the elemental Insights.
Journey is the overall process of knowledge mobilization where the research meets its end goal which is addressing the grand challenges.

Joining as a contributor

Contributors are welcome. As a contributor at Coresia, you can help our research operations in your own way. Becoming a contributor at Coresia is free of charge and only requires creating an account.

Not a Coder? No Problem

You do not need to write algorithms to make an impact. Propose new projects (Knowledge inquiry), provide help in the forums, or become a member to help us in the coordination of different projects.

Joining as a co-researcher

We welcome your involvement as a co-researcher. Whether you are interested or experienced in research (be it through non-traditional pathways), a student building skills, a knowledge user with lived experience, or maybe a knowledge holder with domain expertise, Your unique perspective is an essential asset to our work. Becoming a co-researcher at Coresia is free of charge and only requires creating an account.

Focus on accessibility

For maximum accessibility, Coresia is a purely online platform, with a focus on computational research so that anyone can use it at any time and from any place.

There are no maximum team sizes.

The Knowledge Mobilization journey

Following are three phases in the Knowledge Mobilization journey. The steps in the phases are mere suggestions, they are evolvable as need be depending on the project.

Phase 1: Knowledge Inquiry (Ideation)

The community directly informs our research direction. Place community-relevant questions that require attention onto the research map. Strategize with knowledge holders, conceptualise and design the project.

Phase 2: Knowledge Synthesis (Execution):

This phase involves active analysis. You can write code, analyze open data, engage in forum discussions, and generate solid, reproducible findings. In our pipeline, every research insight is expected to produce a visualization in the form of chart/plot or few, which compose an illustration in the form of figure/infographic, which become discoveries as research articles, leading to innovations as technology, tools or products which can be ultimately used to directly address the corresponding Grand challenge.

The ultimate goal. We aim to provide the agency to the community in need with actionable solutions that can be then used to inform public policy, empower decision-making, and drive constructive change.

Along the way

Evaluation:

When you submit your research, our Core Committee — which is composed of the resident experts — assesses it against three key aspects:

Identifiability, meaning how different are the findings compared to what we already know (novelty),
Verifiability, meaning can the findings be verified to be false or true (falsifiability), and
Defensibility, meaning are the findings robust enough (reproducibility).

The validated research findings — labeled as research-grade — are shown as such in the knowledgebase and when integrated with complementary findings, at the Discovery level are published bearing your contribution.

Getting Credits

Coresia is a unique alternative to conventional research platforms in that here you can demonstrate your skills freely and openly, and refer to your work to build your profile as a researcher.

We use the Contributor Role Taxonomy system (CRediT) to ensure every contribution is recognized. When a Discovery is “reached”, we will publish the results nested under it collectively as a story.

If you worked individually or within a team, co-researcher, your identifiable CRediTs are as follows:

The Coresia Consortium

Anyone who showed interest to join the organisation as a contributor or a co-researcher will be listed as part of the collective Coresia Consortium, with your name searchable in the collaborator credits.

Guidelines

Collaboration

Because we are an open-science platform, everything we do is centered on sharing knowledge freely and equitably.

Show Your Work (This is Mandatory): If you submit a research output, you should include your source data versions, code (if any, committed under an open-source license like GPL v3 by default), and analytical parameters. Your documentation should be detailed enough to pass a standard peer review, ensuring co-researchers who may continue your research can reproduce your exact results.
Play Fair with Data: Open data is a privilege. Occasionally, open datasets (like iNaturalist or GBIF) include the names or locations of the original data collectors. Please respect their privacy. Do not attempt to re-identify anonymous users. If you observe sensitive personal information in a dataset, notify our team before proceeding with your analysis.
Explore Open Data & Licensing: You have access to extensive open resource libraries, such as eBird. While this data is freely available, it comes with responsibilities. Always verify the specific data license (e.g., CC BY, CC BY-NC, or CC0) and ensure the original creators are properly attributed in your analysis.
Build Together: We encourage you to build upon the work of your peer co-researchers, share your scripts, and co-create tools. Incorporating multiple perspectives would likely increase the chance of passing the validations and overall the exchange of skills and expertise would benefit the entire community.

Evolving set of general guidelines (Inspired by The Zen of Python),

Purposeful involvement is better than purpose-less,
direct involvement is better than indirect.
Simple workflow is better than complex,
but the complex workflow is still better than complicated.
A flat management is better than hierarchical,
a minimalistic interface is better than excessive.
Improving accessibility is scaling.
Evolvability should be scaled by stability.
Fairly good enough does not need to be purely perfect.
Non-falsifiable hypothesis is not for a verifiable research,
unless ideation is still work in progress, which should continue.
When confronting ambiguity, measure joint probabilities.
There should be preferably only one obvious way,
except if it restricts the accessibility.
Drafting priorities early is better than late,
but current priorities right now’s priorities.
Research dis-connected with community’s challenges is N/A,
the more connected the research is, the better is its community relevance.

Participation

We operate on trust. Essential “paperwork” on our side includes contributor’s agreement when you register and standard ethics disclosure before linking your contributions to the knowledgebase and conflict of interest declaration before the publication. Please stay on top of these by ticking the boxes where and when necessary, so we can maintain our operations silky smooth.
